Functional Microgels and Microgel Systems

Acc. Chem. Res., 2017, 50(2), 131-140.

Microgels unite properties of very different classes of materials. They allow combining features of chemical functionality, structural integrity, macromolecular architecture, adaptivity, permeability, and deformability in a unique way to include the "best" of the colloidal, polymeric and surfactant worlds. This will open the door for novel applications in very different fields such as, e.g., in sensors, catalysis, and separation technology.

Excursion Garching

Excursion Garching Group Copyright: IPC

At the beginning of April, the IPC organized an excursion for students to the nuclear research reactor in Garching, close to Munich. Under the guidance of Prof. Wll, 20 students were introduced to the manifold possibilities of research using neutrons. A lecture presented the generation of neutrons in nuclear reactions, their various applications, and the economical and political frame conditions of the reactor.
The highlight of the excursion was the visit to the reactor and the hall of experiments. Additionally, the high security regulations were an interesting experience.
