Our Tasks

Our department is the responsible organization for the Central University Administration when it comes to the support and further development of software solutions implicated in the student life cycle. This includes the introduction, coordination, process support, and optimization of the campus management software RWTHonline. We are also responsible for application support and the organization of carpe-diem! – the automated course and exam planning system at RWTH. In addition, we also implement and maintain teaching staff details in RWTHonline.

 

PuL Project and RWTHonline

The PuL project aimed to reorganize processes implicated in the student life cycle, including the introduction of an integrated software solution. The project covered all areas of the life cycle – from study application to graduation.
We have been using the RWTHonline software since winter semester 2018/19. It supports the majority of the processes involved in application and admission management, student and fee management, course and classroom management as well as exam management.

Now the software has been introduced, we are currently in the two-semester starting period, which will run until the end of the 2019/20 winter semester. Our aim is to improve the software and its usability with all parties involved. At the same time, project structures will be transferred to a process-oriented regular operation that all participants will coordinate. Our key focus here is on further optimizing the underlying processes and ensuring the best possible process support. The IT Center and the faculties will develop and implement this together.

carpe diem!

Against a backdrop of a sharply increasing student body, RWTH was one of the first universities to decide to introduce the automated optimization of its course and examination planning. The software, which is operated jointly with MathPlan GmbH - a spin-off of TU Berlin - and the RWTH IT Center, makes it possible to plan all central teaching and examination courses at RWTH as required and thus design clash-free schedules. The carpe diem! team is in charge of coordinating the operations and planning during the semester.

We are currently focusing on improving the connection between carpe diem! and RWTHonline as well as further harmonizing different processes. This also includes continually optimizing room resources.
